Analisadaily.com, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has urged residents to remain alert to the potential impacts of Tropical Cyclone Man-Yi, which is currently forming in the Philippine Sea.

"According to the Jakarta Tropical Cyclone Warning Center (TCWC), the cyclone has developed in the Philippine Sea, approximately 1,040 kilometers north of Tahuna in the Sangihe Islands District, North Sulawesi," said Ben A. Molle, Coordinator of Observation and Information at the BMKG Sam Ratulangi Manado Meteorology Station, on Sunday.

BMKG issued a statement on the expected impacts of Cyclone Man-Yi on Saturday (November 16).

The cyclone is expected to bring moderate to heavy rainfall to North Sulawesi and may also affect sea conditions. According to BMKG, wave heights of 1.25 to 2.5 meters (moderate sea) are expected in the waters off the Sitaro Islands District, Sangihe Islands District, Maluku waters, and the eastern Sulawesi Sea.

Meanwhile, wave heights of 2.5 to 4.0 meters (rough sea) are predicted for the waters off the Talaud Islands District.

BMKG has called on the public and relevant stakeholders to be aware of potential hydrometeorological disasters and to take necessary precautions, particularly regarding maritime safety.

Previously, on Sunday, November 10, 2024, BMKG also advised residents to be mindful of the indirect effects of Tropical Cyclone Toraji, which was located approximately 1,317 kilometers north of Tahuna in the Philippine Sea.

Some 255,000 people have been evacuated from the Bicol region in the Philippines due to Cyclone Man-Yi, also known as Pepito in the Philippines, RIA Novosti reported, quoting the PhilStar newspaper on Saturday.

Man-Yi is the sixth typhoon to strike the Philippines in the past month. Earlier this week, thousands of people were evacuated from the coastal areas of Luzon Island in northern Philippines due to Typhoon Usagi.

In late October, at least 145 people were killed after Tropical Storm Trami and Super Typhoon Kong-Rey battered the Philippines.

The total number of people affected by extreme weather across the country has surpassed 7 million.

In early November, Typhoons Yinxing and Toraji also hit the Philippines, prompting the evacuation of thousands of residents.
